Progress Reports

There was an error on the CE 7 section of the progress report.  I will be sending home that section tonight.  If there are any questions, please contact me at school.
I look forward to meeting with parents at interviews tonight 4:00- 7:00 and tomorrow 4:00- 6:00.

Thursday

CE 7: The students continued working on their pictorial time lines.  The time lines will be due Tuesday. 
ELA 8: We began our new unit on poetry.  Two concrete poems and an alliteration poem are due tomorrow.
ELA 7: We finished reading Two Against the North.  After a handout on character sketches the students had time to work on their prewriting.  I will be checking the prewriting tomorrow.  They will have class time tomorrow to write and edit their rough copy.  Good copy is due Wednesday.
PAA 8: The students answered questions on sewing tools/ supplies and application.

Monday

CE 20: We watched more of Joan of Arc.  We will finish the movie Wednesday.
ELA 8: The girls worked on their reviews.  The test will be later this week. 
SCI 8: After reading page 45-47, the students wrote their own notes.
ELA 7: The students read chapter 20-24 independently then answered questions while I started HIP reading assessment.
PAA 9:  We sewed in the lab.

Reminder that it is Twin Day tomorrow.  Make sure you are dressed up or you have to wear your uniform.

Wednesday

CE 7: We read page 18 and 19 together, then wrote some notes.  The students will need their Bibles on Friday. 
ELA 8: The girls skimmed "Feeling Good, Looking Great" for 25 adjectives.  Have your lists ready for tomorrow.  Each student is to interview someone and be ready to discuss tomorrow.
ELA 7: We corrected questions and started writing a journal entry from the point of view of Jamie or Awasin with a focus on how the character must be feeling about their chances of rescue and survival.  The students were asked to write a minimum of three paragraphs.  The journal entries are due tomorrow.
PAA 8: We sewed in the lab.  The sweaters are getting pretty close.  I am impressed with all the seamstresses.

Friday

CE 8: We missed CE for mass this morning.

ELA 7: The students read chapter 10 "The Great Stone House" independently then answered questions.  Students will not be allowed to enter class on Tuesday until they have shown me their entrance slip.

1. After Awasin makes the fire and the boys eat “dinner” Farley Mowat describes Jamie as being “himself again.” What does Farley Mowat mean by this statement?

2. What was the Great Stone House? Describe the different reaction the two boys had when they found out what it was.

CE 7: After brainstorming different community types, the students met in groups to answer questions.  A large group discussion followed.  We wrote some notes to help us remember what healthy communities look like.

PAA 8: We sewed in the lab.  The sweaters are really starting to come together...literally.

ELA 8: After combining their two stanzas from yesterday to create group poems, the girls had time to finish the good copy of their fable.  The poems and fables are due Wednesday.

Wednesday

Science 8: We wrote notes on the cell membrane and diffusion.  There were two mini experiments with food colouring and Febreeze so the students could experience diffusion in real life.

CE 20: We missed CE for a presentation on Cyberbulling.
 ELA 7: The students worked on their canoeing brochures.  Tomorrow will be the last day to work.
PAA 9: We sewed in the lab.  The onsies and dresses are really starting to come together.

Monday

Science 8: The students presented their cell representations.  I was very impressed.

CE and ELA 8: CTBS testing
CE 20: We read about Paul and the first apostles in the textbook.
SCI 8: It was the last work class for cell representations.  We being presentations on Monday.
ELA 7: The students worked on a character sketch outline for Rosa Parks based on "Rosa Parks: Model of Courage, Symbol of Freedom".

Wednesday

CE 8: We missed CE for a beautiful mass this morning.
ELA 7: The students handed in their character sketches with punctuation, capitals, conjunctions, and characteristics marked.
CE 7: We wrote some notes on the Medicine Wheel and coloured our own wheels.  We celebrated Sydney's birthday.
PAA 8: The patterns came in and we were able to start cutting out our fabric.

Monday

ELA 7: The class edited their character sketches and wrote out the good copy double spaced in pen.  The character sketches are due Wednesday.  We will correct the run-on sentence worksheets tomorrow.
CE 7: In small groups, the students normal grade seven students.  As a class we wrote notes on how a normal student acts, feels, fears, loves, and how they see God.  We read "A Very Strange Visit" in the textbook on page 13+14.
ELA 8: We finished our skills speeches and started out CTBS testing.  This will take up the next two weeks.
CE 20: The girls watched the transformation St Paul from Christian persecutor to apostle. I have the video for those that were absent to watch.
CE 8: The girls worked on a resume to apply to a new society being created based on Jesus' teachings.  The resume should highlight their gifts, talents and experiences.

CE 20: We finished the notes on the six models of the Catholic church and discussed the Pentecost.  We enjoyed some clips of Peter and Matthew Kelly speaking about Jesus.
SCI 8: We missed science today for the Terry Fox walk.
ELA 7: We finished the notes on complete sentences and started a work booklet on run-on sentences. The first two pages are due tomorrow.

Friday

ELA 8: The girls wrote about summer holidays from the POV of a desk.

ELA 7: We corrected the questions from "Some Days You're the Puppy" and filled in a writing outline.
PAA 9: We discussed our clothing inventories and wrote notes on purchasing clothing.

The First Day of School

I am so excited for another year to begin.  Today we tried to get organized and prepared for the week.  We will be using the agenda everyday, so I ask that you check on their homework, sign the date, and send it back to school.  Please send back page 18 signed to ensure your child can use the internet at school.  Meet the Teacher BBQ is Thursday September 17.  I look forward to meeting everyone at the BBQ.

Wednesday

CE 7 T/C: Shared prayer in the little chapel.  Everyone did a wonderful job preparing.
CE 9: The students had their last day to work on their beatitude posters.
PAA 7 T: We baked calzones.  They were delicious.
Science 8: We correct questions and read page 245-251.  Tomorrow we are going to the Conservation Learning Centre to learn about water conservation.  Make sure you dress appropriately and wear sun screen.

Tuesday

PAA 7 T: We baked cinnamon buns and they were so delicious.  Great work!
CE 7 C/T: The kids wrote short notes on Incarnation and created silhouettes then wrote characteristics they have in common with Jesus.
Science 8: Read page 238-242, communicate 1-2, and 1-4.  Tomorrow were are working on Looking for a Relationship page 240-241.

Monday

PAA 9: We are down to our last three labs to go.  Make sure you come to class prepared to work with all the materials you will need.
CE 7 C/T: We read about the land and culture of Jesus' time and wrote some notes.  Incarnation acrostic and My name is... story due today.

I had derby in Red Deer this weekend and  won Jammer MVP for my team!  Then I won a gold medal at the after party with Colette for being the first to finish a scavenger hunt.  Come check out my team at the A&W Show and Shine this Friday 5-8.

Thursday

CE 9: We did a choral reading of a retelling of the prodigal son and wrote short notes on Reconciliation.
Science 8: The girls finished their lab reports on The Best Boat and read page 228-230.  Page 231 #1-5 is due Tuesday May 28.
CE 7 T: I handed back the letters to God and students had the chance to give some advice to fellow students.  The rest of the class was for catch up of missing assignments.
PAA 9: Notes on Laundering Clothing and the start of a clothing needs assignment
PAA 7 C: The girls baked and decorated the most beautiful red velvet cupcakes.

Wednesday/ Thursday

PAA 9: We did some great sewing work.  Aunt MaryAnn was a huge help again and will come whenever she is available.
CE 7: Yesterday the kids wrote a short quiz and today we started our new unit of Belonging.  We did speed conversations with the topic of being picked on.  The kids wrote letters to God about issues they are having in their lives.
CE 9: We finished the lilies and they look awesome.  Tomorrow we will start the Forgiveness in Scripture assignment.
Science 8: Page 222 #1-2, read pg 223-224 and prepared for The Best Boat we will be doing tomorrow.
PAA 7T: The kids baked some beautiful Kit Kat cheesecake brownies that they will get to enjoy tomorrow.  They have to chill in the fridge over night for all the flavors to blend and so the base firms up.

Tuesday

CE 9: We tried our hand at origami lilies.  It was also a lesson in patience and fine motor skill practice.
Science 8: We read page 218-221 and wrote notes on Buoyancy and Gravitational Forces, Fish's Swim Bladder and Submarines.
CE 7T: The students read parables and answered some reflection questions.  There will be a short quiz tomorrow.  Read page 120 to review.
PAA 9: We discussed our clothing inventories and ways to pay for purchases.  Short notes on clothing care.
PAA 7C: Kit Kat Cheesecake brownies... we will enjoy them tomorrow as they have to cool in the fridge for at least four hours.

Wednesday

CE 7: We read a modern parable of the prodigal son and deconstructed The Lord's Prayer.  The recipes for happiness were due today.
CE 9: The kids worked on a satisfaction acrostic.  They will be due Tuesday May 14.  The stories were due today.
PAA 7T: Baked banana chocolate chip muffins
Science: Corrected CYP and read page 214-216.  Wrote some notes on bouyancy.

Last week was spirit week.  My mom kept all of her favorite dresses over the years so I had many options for each day.  Here is my favourite from 70's day.

Monday and Tuesday

CE 7T: Happiness is... booklet and notes on parables.  We did some fun activities to shake up our thinking.
Science: CYP Page 213 #1-8 due Wednesday
PAA 9: We wrote notes on purchasing clothing.  Complete wardrobe inventory due Tuesday May 14.  In our double we sewed.  We have five doubles left until the end of the year.  We need to pick up the pace.

Tuesday

Science 8: We did some notes on calculating density and the relationship between density and temperature.
PAA 7: We labeled kitchen and baking utensils on a work sheet.  Next week we bake banana chocolate chip muffins.
CE 7 C: We worked on a "Happiness is..." booklet as a class.
CE 9: Heart of Gold... the students rewrote scriptures on how to have a pure heart.
