CE 20: After 20 minutes of working on the personal creeds due Thursday, the class watched a video on monasticism and wrote some notes.
ELA 8: We finished the text connections graphic organizers from yesterday.
ELA 7: A Dragon's Lament
CE 7: The class worked on their scripture search assigned yesterday.
PAA 9/10: The girls finished sewing mittens from scraps in the home ec lab.

Reminder of Winter White Out Day tomorrow for class points.  Wear as much white as possible!

CE 7: The students searched the class to finish corollaries about God as the perfect parent.
PAA 8: The ladies started working on their instructional sewing videos.
Health 8: The class worked through a Building Health Skills worksheet and started preparing some refusal skits for next class.
ELA 8: Miss Myers, a SUNTEP student teacher, taught a lesson on global citizenship.
ELA 7: We worked through a poem with a focus on word choice.
Health 7: After writing notes on strong character, the students worked on a worksheet.

CE 7: The students worked on some skits about tough parental decisions.
CE 20: We discussed the Council of Nicea and the class started writing their own creeds.
Health 7: After finishing the notes on the goal-setting process, the class shared about a role model of theirs.
ELA 7: We had a wonderful silent reading class.
PAA 9/10: The girls started on some mittens with scrap fabric from the sewing lab.
ELA 8: The class was spent editing.  We will watch the videos together Monday.

Thursday

ELA 8: The first period was the last class for the ladies to film.  The last class was spent editing. We will watch the movies together tomorrow.
ELA 7: After answering some questions on "Fear!..." that we read yesterday, we discussed figurative language and similes.  The class worked on identifying similes in the text. 
PAA 8: The girls cut out their sleeve cuffs and waistbands then began sewing the sleeves to the front.  The sweaters will really start to take shape next day.

Wednesday, November 19... Back By Popular Demand

CE 20: We finished watching "A Man for All Seasons" (St. Thomas Moore) and began learning about the Council of Jerusalem.  After watching a short film "The Antioch Incident", the class wrote notes.
ELA 7: Inner dialogues were due today.  The kids read "Fear!..." independently then wrote a one paragraph summary.  The summaries are due tomorrow morning.
ELA 8: The girls worked on filming their 90 second Giver films.  Tomorrow, period one, will be the last class for filming, and period six will be the first editing class. 
PAA 9/10: It was the last day to work on the up-cycling sewing projects. I'm seeing a lot of creative work!

CE 7: The students worked on their boats to represent their personality.
CE 20: It was the last work class for the prayer book that is due Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Health 7: Using scaffold notes, the students worked through the 10 building blocks of good health.
ELA 7: We played an improv game from "Some Days You're the Puppy".
PAA 9/10: The girls started their colour study worksheet.
ELA 8: We finished discussing "You Should Wear Khakis With That", and the girls began working on their own comic strips.

Welcome!

Though it is hard to believe, a new school year is upon us.  I am very excited to get to know all my new students and see my old students again.  Welcome week is always a fun time at Rivier.  Tomorrow there will complementary sticky buns and juice waiting at the student doors and Thursday is the annual Freshie Auction.  Friday is Picture Day so please dress in formal uniform.  Freshie Day is Monday September 8.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at the school (764-6289).  I am excited for a wonderful year to begin.

Wednesday

ELA 8: The girls finished writing the good copy of their stories.
PAA 7: We worked on serging and the chest piece of our aprons.
CE 7: After practicing a little for mass next Wednesday, we talked about Lent.
ELA 7: We finished reading "The Wretched Stone" and wrote down the next assignment.  We will work on the pre-writing Thursday.

PAA 7: The students worked on some straight stitches and watched a serging demo.  Tomorrow in our double we will start serging our raw edges.
ELA 7: After getting back their writing assessments, the students edited their February break papers with a focus on either word choice, introduction/conclusion, sentence variety, or adding details.
CE 7: Our class is in charge of mass for Ash Wednesday next week.  We will be practicing in the chapel Monday and Tuesday.  If your child has a reading part, please help them practice.  The students made some skits showing how Jesus included everyone.  They were really funny.
ELA 8: After a homework check on their pre-writing, the girls worked on the rough copy of their stories.
CE 8: We read from the Marie Rivier text and answered questions.

ELA 7: The students worked on a free write about their February break.  We will be using them tomorrow to work on our writing.
ELA 8: The girls started a story with a focus on sentence variety, word choice, or organization.
CE 20: The girls read about St. Ignatius and Teresa of Avila.  They wrote a short story about a radical change in their lives and a poem about selfless love. Both are due on Friday.

PAA 7: We finished cutting our fabric for our aprons and practiced threading the sewing machine.
ELA 7: The students caught up on some silent reading we missed from the writing assessment last week.  After finishing their self evaluation, we did a quick character building game.
CE 7: We talked about babies and their place in life.
ELA 8: The girls finished their writing self evaluations and worked on the review for their quiz on Wednesday.

ELA 7: The students finished their writing assessments.  Anyone that is not finished must finish Monday.
CE 20: We had a lot of rich discussion about Jehovah's Witnesses, the Vatican III hoax and possible reforms for the Catholic Church.

ELA 7: The students finished editing the rough copy of their CWA.  Tomorrow they will write the good copy.
SCI 8: After watching a short video, the students worked through some worksheets on eyes and cameras.

SCI 8: We watched a short video on converging and diverging lenses and created some ray diagrams.
CE 7: We went to "Sleeping Beauty Jr" and it was delightful.

SCI 8: The kids worked through an experiment with concave and convex lenses.
ELA 7: After some homonym practice, the students read.
ELA 8: We enjoyed watching Hercules in our double this afternoon.  The girls have a Venn diagram to compare and contrast Hercules and Heracles due Friday.  We also started the Common Writing Assessment with our pre-writing.
CE 8: We filmed our models of the Church songs.  They were wonderful.

PAA 7: We cut out the fabric for our aprons and practiced threading the sewing machines.  The fabric looks really good; I can't wait to see the finished aprons.
CE 7: The students wrote a one page reflection on what they see when they look in the mirror.
ELA 7: We made a new seating plan and began the pre-writing stage of the Common Writing Assessment.

ELA 7: Mr. Sander came back to finish teaching the kids about essay outlines.  Tomorrow we will work on some outlines and sentence variety.
CE 20: The girls created Venn diagrams to compare and contrast Catholicism with another Christian denomination.  We wrote a short open book quiz and started a writing assignment on predestination.

Tuesday & Wednesday

SCI 8: The students wrote a short, open book quiz.  We read about refraction and wrote notes.
CE 7: After a pop quiz, the students switched lockers while working on a circle story about God's creation.
CE 20: We read about Luther and made a chart to compare and contrast the Catholic and Protestant religions.
ELA 8: The girls wrote some notes on proper comma usage and did some application questions.  The rough copies of their Hera papers were due, and they edited their work using a checklist and rubric.
ELA 7: We took a class to organize our books for second semester.  After writing some notes on expository writing, we looked at some student samples.
CE 8: We read and talked about the different rites of the Catholic church.

Welcome Semester Two!
We celebrated mass in first period this morning.
ELA 7: The students worked on the good copies of their stories from the POV of a Christmas tree.  The stories are due Wednesday.
CE 8: The girls presented their Models of the Church songs and symbols.  They were amazing.  Ask your daughter to sing the song for you tonight.
ELA 8: The girls worked on the rough copy of their short Hera essay.  The topic is Hera's scorn toward Zeus' lovers and children.  The rough copies are due Wednesday.

CE 20: We finished watching Reluctant Revolutionary and planned for our mass.
ELA 8: The girls worked on a picture of the ancient Greek world.  The pictures are due tomorrow and require colour.
SCI 8: The students will get 10 minutes next day to finish up Check Your Progress page 98 #1-6.
ELA 7: We worked on some pre-writing for our letters to the future.  Tomorrow the students will write the letters.
PAA 9: It was our second last sewing class in the lab and projects are really coming together.  Great work nines.

ELA 7: We finished the notes on plural and possessive nouns and started some practice.  There will be more practice tomorrow.
CE 7: The students presented their advent posters and did a scripture search.  We will discuss them next day.
ELA 8: We worked on the family tree of the Greek gods and talked about the ancient world.
CE 8: The girls wrote a sacrament pop quiz then we watched Fr. Tony speak at Youth Day 2012.
CE 20: We started watching The Reluctant Revolutionary.

SCI 8: We started the new unit on Optics and Vision.  All the notes are photocopied and waiting in my binder for the students that were absent.  I handed back the tests from before the break. 
ELA 7: Listening quiz on homonyms and some notes on making nouns plural and possessive.
PAA 9: Second last sewing double
ELA 8: Began our new unit on Greek Mythology.  We created a very confusing family tree for the Greek creation myth.  Next day we will start talking about the landscape and particular gods.  Remember that at least two paragraphs about an interesting scar are due tomorrow.

CE 7: We changed the seating plan for January.  The students presented their Jesse Tree ornaments.  On Wednesday the Advent posters will be presented.
ELA 8: We discussed our favourite gift we gave this Christmas and began some creative writing on scars.
ELA 7: We wrote notes on there/their/they're, your/you're, and to/too/two.
PAA 8: The girls continued sewing their sweaters.  They are looking great.
