Monday, 28 May 2012

We had such a fun day at track.  I am so proud of all my girls.  I worked the long jump pit with Miss Wilson, Alyx and Caitlin.  Even though I kept getting mistaken for a grade eight student, it was a great day!  I'm so excited for PAC next Friday.

My sister got cleated during her ball game this weekend.  Here is the aftermath:
Check out the swelling on her shin! It kept getting worse as the day progressed so we went to the walk-in clinic.
Here is Lisa right before her x-ray to make sure nothing was broken.
The bruise was really starting to get out of hand.

Track and Field Meet

We are participating our track meet on Monday May 28 with Holy Cross and St. Francis schools.  We will be meeting at the Harry Jerome Track at 8:30 and will probably be done around 3:00.  Please remember to wear sunscreen, even if it's cloudy, and dress in layers.  You can always take off a sweater you have, but you can't put on one you didn't bring.  There will be a canteen, but it's a good idea to have your own water packed.  Parents may pick up their daughters for lunch, keeping in mind what time they have to be back for their events.  We are going to have so much fun if we are properly dressed and prepared for the day.
Please come out and cheer on our school!

Wednesday, 23 May 2012

We had a school lunch for the 30th anniversary of Mother Rivier's beatification.  The girls decorated one of our classroom walls after.  I can't decide if it's a Wall of Fame or Wall of Shame.  (That's not highlighter on my face; my jaw bruise has taken on a new colour today.)

Still recovering...

At my most swollen Saturday night.
I used frozen peas to ice my face.
My sister brought me a heated wheat bag for my face and a baby for my arms.  Sophie is the best.

Friday (Recovery Day)

The swelling has started to set in more but it's not to bad.  I have stopped bleeding and even braved brushing my teeth closer to the back.  It was a big moment for me.  I will spend the rest of the day eating soup, icing my face, and watching movies.

Thursday (Teeth Day)

Here I am 20 minutes after surgery.
This is how I looked leaving the mall because I didn't think I could close my mouth. Lol

I tried a smile and realized I could do it.  This made me very happy.  I slept the whole way home with ice packs on my cheeks.

Tuesday - Friday

ELA 7: We worked on our parodies and comedy skits.  The parodies are due next Wednesday and we will perfom the skits next Friday.  The girls watched Megamind today and had to identify twenty things that made the movie funny, while drinking iced tea and eating chips and candy.  It is so tough being in grade seven.
ELA 8: We finished reading about the Trojan war and watched a documentary called "The Truth of Troy" on youtube.  There will be a quiz on the documentary and the readings on Tuesday.
ELA 9: We finished reading "And the Lucky Winner is..." and "The Last Leaf".  The girls are working on a story similar to the play we read where a character has to make a sacrifice for a friend.  There will be more class time to write.  The girls worked on grammar sheets with Sr Zelie and a short writing assignment where they had to describe a time where they did the right thing.  We will have a short test to wrap up our Doing the Right Thing unit sometime next week.

It's a celebration...

I celebrated at Homestead after my first ball game.  We won 4-0.  I asked for five scoops and the girl gave me five-and-a-half.  It goes without saying, I have made a new best friend.

Enjoying the sunshine...

Siobhan, Andy, Tesa, and Gabby enjoyed make your own uniform day.  I wish you could see Andy's graffiti tights in the picture.  They were awesome.
Shamara and Maya had trouble finding a spot with no bugs and finally settled at the picnic bench.

Tuesday

ELA 8: We watched and enjoyed Hercules.
Homework:
1) Perhaps the strongest human in all of the Greek narrative was Heracles.  Heracles performed twelve seemingly impossible labours.  Why?
2) How does each of Heracles' twelve labours atone for his sins?
3) In completing these feats, Heracles depended on strength, stamina, intellect, or assistance from others.  How did he accomplish each task?  What personal quality did Heracles rely on most?
4) What are some of our modern "monsters" that might be Heracles' labours today?  If he lived today, what occupations might he be likely to follow?  Explain.

Avery's Birthday Party

The cake border did not last long during the photo shoot. I eventually told Avery to hold her hands in her lap.
 Maybe I should go blond...

The icing is strawberry buttercream (made with fresh strawberries) with pink on pink scrolls.
Avery dancing after her first bite...
The dance turned angry when she realized she would never have another first bite.
