Thursday

ELA 7: Work period on parodies.
CE 7: We wrote Dear Abby letters and read page 220-222.
ELA 8: Corrected the homework questions on Heracles.
ELA 9: Started reading "And the Lucky Winner is..."  We will finish reading tomorrow.
Media 20: Work period for newspaper assignment.  Tomorrow is the last work class.

It's a celebration...

I celebrated at Homestead after my first ball game.  We won 4-0.  I asked for five scoops and the girl gave me five-and-a-half.  It goes without saying, I have made a new best friend.

 Siobhan, Andy, Tesa, and Gabby enjoyed make your own uniform day.  I wish you could see Andy's graffiti tights in the picture.  They were awesome.
 Shamara and Maya had trouble finding a spot with no bugs and finally settled at the picnic bench.
 I told Drew, Mackenzie, and Lauryn to make it look like grade seven is fun.  Lauryn really took it to heart.
 Kalin, Heaven, and Abi having too much fun in grade seven.
 Ashely, Heidi, and Tate were alternating from writing parodies to taking pictures.
Shawna thought she had avoided all the pictures; joke's on her.

Wednesday

ELA 9: We read "Shoes" and "Signs on the Journey".  We have been having great class discussions and the question cup is a success.
ELA 7: Work period for fairy tale parodies.
ELA 8: Silent reading outside.  It was such a beautiful day.
Sewing 7: We did some serious sewing.  We have hit the half way point and are making great progress.  Most girls should be finished their aprons next class and will start pajama pants.

ELA 8: We watched and enjoyed Hercules. 
Homework:
1) Perhaps the strongest human in all of the Greek narrative was Heracles.  Heracles performed twelve seemingly impossible labours.  Why?
2) How does each of Heracles' twelve labours atone for his sins?
3) In completing these feats, Heracles depended on strength, stamina, intellect, or assistance from others.  How did he accomplish each task?  What personal quality did Heracles rely on most? 
4) What are some of our modern "monsters" that might be Heracles' labours today?  If he lived today, what occupations might he be likely to follow?  Explain. 
5) Create a Venn diagram to compare and contrast Heracles and the Greek myths we have read with the movie Hercules.  Your diagram must have ten points.

Sewing 7: We finished the last two sheets of the booklet.
Science 7: Read page 16-19 and filled in skeleton notes.  Answer #1 on page 21 and #1-4 on page 22.
ELA 9: We read and discussed If I Can Stop One Heart From Breaking.  Be prepared to share your epitaph with the class next day.
Media 20: Work period for the newspaper assignment.  Thursday and Friday will be the last work classes.  The newspaper will be due Thursday May 17.

CE 7: Finished "Our Father" posters and worked through a bullying demonstration. Remember to keep working on your day brightener assignments.
ELA 8: Read about Heracles and his 12 tasks.  We will watch Hercules tomorrow.  Make sure you are familiar with the legend of Heracles so we can talk about the similarities and differences between the two.
ELA 7: Work period for parodies and comedy skits. 
ELA 9: Read Babysitting Helen then had a heated discussion about mothers volunteering their daughters for babysitting without asking first.

Avery's Birthday Party


 The cake border did not last long during the photo shoot. I eventually told Avery to hold her hands in her lap.
 Maybe I should go blond...

 The icing is strawberry buttercream (made with fresh strawberries) with pink on pink scrolls.

ELA 7: We read "Frog" on 242 in Crossroads then started our own fairy tale parodies.  We now have the comedy routine and parody assignment to work on in the following classes.
ELA 8: We read Evil Men, Fate and the Three Heroes, Love Stories, and Jason and the Golden Fleece.  The plan is to cover Heracles on Monday so we can watch Disney's Hercules on Tuesday in our double class. 
ELA 9: We watched Romeo and Juliet
Science 7: Created a virtual terrarium, read and filled in skeleton notes from page 12-15, then completed Communicate #1+2 and Check Your Progress #1-3 on page 15

Happy Birthday Michelle!

Today is my sister's birthday.  I wish she lived closer so I could make these for her.
She is also five months pregnant.  Check out Baby Sliv's feet.  I'm so excited!

ELA 7: We read "On the Funny Side" about two stand up comedians.  We will be working on writing our own 20 second comedy routine about a story from our childhood.  Please help your daughters remember a funny story.
ELA 8: Writing class for describing the perfect place.  The assignment will be due Monday May 7.
CE 7: We discussed parables and the true meaning of the prayer "Our Father".  The girls are working on posters to describe a line of the prayer to hang around the school.
Science 7: We corrected page 5 #1-3 then watched "Colours of the Wind".  A good copy of your Virtual Field Trip will be due Tuesday May 8.

ELA 7: We watched an episode of Full House and discussed what makes something funny.  We created a list on the board.
CE 7: Read the parable The Prodigal Son and discussed.  The girls are working in groups of three or four reading and discussing different parables.  The questions are due for class tomorrow.
ELA 8: Began a writing assignment where the girls are to imagine they are a god or goddess who just created the perfect place.  They must describe the place focusing on sensory details.  There will be work time tomorrow and we will set a due date in class.
ELA 9: Started watching Romeo and Juliet.  Leo is so dreamy as Romeo.

ELA 8: Read page 20-25 and worked on critical reading by asking questions such as: Why did the author write this? What is the meaning behind the myth? What does it teach us about gender roles? Who is being represented or not represented?
Sewing 7: Questions 7-12 due Tuesday May 8.  Refresher on threading the machines and began experimenting with a straight stitch.  Tomorrow is our double and we need to come ready to work.
Science 7: Introduction to Interactions within Ecosystems.

My best friend's dog had four puppies.  They were so cute even though they cried like little babies when we held them.

ELA 8: Read about Apollo, Artemis, Dionysus and Hermes.  The goal is four jot notes under each god or goddess.

My only regret with my new hair extensions is that I didn't go quite big enough.  Next time, I guess.

ELA 7: Working on the lit circles final project.  Tomorrow will be the last day to work.
CE 7: Short reading on what true happiness looks like.  Students had the choice between a poster, a letter or a definition on happiness.  There will be 20 minutes to finish on Thursday. 
ELA 8: Began new unit on Greek Mythology.
ELA 9: Corrected Act 5 questions then worked on final writing projects.  The last quiz will be tomorrow.
Media 20: Advertising notes and working on newspaper assignment.  We will be working on this assignment for the next five classes at least.

CE 7: Discussion on what is true happiness.  The girls that forgot their interviews will share on Monday.
ELA 7: Finished reading our novels and have began working on the final projects.  We haven't set a due date yet.  We are planning a class potluck for Friday April 27.  We will also be watching The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas that day as a wrap up to our literature circles unit.
ELA 8: Finished our provincial writing assessment.  Any students that didn't quite finished are invited to go to the exam room at lunch next week.  I have to send back all the assessments next Friday.
ELA 9: Finished reading Romeo and Juliet.  We will corrected Act V questions on Monday and the quiz will be on Tuesday.  There will be three writing assignments instead of a final exam.  We will watch the movie sometime in the next two weeks.
Science 7: Cogeneration booklets were due Thursday.  We wrote notes and discussed forms of energy.

Science 7: Finished cogeneration pamphlets.  They will be due Thursday April 19.

Space Mountain was terrifying. I tensed every muscle in my body...notice the claw hand. The only time I stopped screaming was to gag. Luckily the ride ended just in time.

We were already soaked from the rain so we did Splash Mountain twice. Notice the praying hands... I was praying I would not pass out from fear.

ELA 7: Prefix and suffix worksheets
CE 7: Read page 86-92 and create a list of all the titles of Jesus. Under each title write a short description of the history of the title and its meaning. On the rock handouts, describe what is the biggest rock in your path to reconciliation
Science 7: Research how an igloo is built and works. Write a five sentence paragraph to share with the class. Pictures are a great addition but not mandatory. Correct any mistakes on your test using your notes and textbook.
ELA 8: Using the pre-writing templates, organize your ideas for both essays. Write the rough copies using your pre-writing. Aim for five paragraphs on each topic.
ELA 9: Finish Act 2 questions and write a 3/4 page diary entry for Act 1 and 2 from the perspective of one of the following characters: Romeo, Juliet, Friar Lawrence, Capulet, Nurse, or Benvolio.

Special Sewing Sessions

I will stay after school for two hours on Wednesday and Thursday to finish up sewing. I invite all 7C girls to come both days so we can finish your apron and pants. We have our last double together tomorrow afternoon. We will continue to work during lunch hours as well.

Remember that it is Mexican Spirit Week. Tomorrow we will be enjoying a short siesta after lunch for 20 minutes in fourth period. Please bring your own pillow, blanket, and sombrero as these items will not be provided. On Wednesday the SLC is treating the school to a free taco at lunch. There will be a pepper eating contest on Thursday. Friday is a Fiesta dress-up day. It goes without saying I already have my outfit picked out. :)

My nieces, Hannah and Avery, on Hannah's birthday Saturday. Hannah loved the Cinderella cake I made for her and managed to hold back sampling until the cake was actually cut. Avery's will power was not as strong.
Baby Sophie is somehow getting cuter by the day.

After reading the midterms, I found some areas we need to work on. I am excited to begin Media Studies. We are starting where Mrs. Trumier left off.

Start of December

ELA 7: We finished up our mini unit on "The Summer of the Swans" and have began our new unit on Mysteries and Uncanny Incidents. We will be reading lots of mysteries and working on identifying fact verses opinion. Later in the unit we will write a newspaper article about a mystery then revamping that article so it could be featured in National Enquirer.
CE 7: We are in the process of preparing for Christmas through Advent celebration. All the girls have finished the ornaments to hang on our Jesse Tree. Make sure your daughter can explain why she made her ornament and can make a connection to Jesus when describing her bible verse.
SCI 7: We have started a new unit on Heat. After getting deeper into the swing of things, I look forward to more experiments in our second unit.
ELA 8: We are half way through our novel "Holes". This week we will create titles for the chapters and continue listening to the cd and taking turns reading.
ELA 9: We are powering through our unit on Norse and Indigenous Narratives. Tomorrow we will create an introductory paragraph for our character sketches together then work on our own. The character sketches will be due later in the week. Once we finish vision quest narratives we will watch "Brother Bear". The evaluation for this unit will be a re-telling of a Christmas myth. The unit will be finished around Christmas. If Violet continues to keep the class on track, we will watch Thor as a treat at the end as well.
PAA 12: We will start a new unit on Personal Finance tomorrow.

ELA 8: We started typing poetry dossiers. We will have tomorrow to type as well and will set a due date together.

ELA 9: Read three Pourquoi tales and wrote a paragraph describing the characteristics of Pourquoi tales.
ELA 8: Worked on poetry dossier. We will start typing in the computer lab tomorrow.
PAA 12: Missed mass. Remember we are making the filling for our pies tomorrow and we need every minute to work. Come down to the lab asap.
ELA 7: Started final projects for "The Summer of the Swans". The girls will have the rest of the week to work on their projects.

ELA 7: Work on character webs for "The Summer of the Swans".
PAA 12: Reminder that we are reverse tie-dying our black t-shirts tomorrow. Bring your money for the shirts. They are five dollars each.
ELA 9: Worked on the Norse Nine Worlds posters. There is another work class tomorrow. The posters will be due November 15. We read "Iduna's Apples" and "Irraweka, Mischief Maker". Tomorrow we will compare and contrast the two stories.
CE 7: We played two types of trust games. Some of your daughters can not be trusted. :)

ELA 8: Circle story writing. We wrote three part stories with different authors for each section.
ELA 7: Read to chapter 12.
SCI 7: Worked on chapter reviews and unit cover pages. Both are due tomorrow. You need to hand in the review asap so I can get it marked and handed back by Wednesday. Remember that the test will be on Tuesday, November 15.
PAA 12: Our tie-dye sat all weekend and looks amazing. Except for a slight hiccup, the shirts were a success. We will miss class because of the Remembrance Day service tomorrow, so we will reverse tie-dye with bleach on Wednesday.

My volleyball team won at Conference this weekend so we move on to regional playoffs. Please pray for our volleyball team.

ELA 9: Read "Creation of the Nine Worlds" in our duotangs. We began drawing a picture to represent the nine worlds and will continue next day.
ELA 8: Began our Poetry Dossiers. I will bring a sample on Monday.
ELA 7: We painted runners puce and drew swans while listening to music from Swan Lake.
PAA 12: We tie-dyed our t-shirts. I can't wait to unwrap them Monday.
SCI: Continued work on our reviews and unit cover page.

ELA 9: Our Stories, Our Voices Webquest.
ELA 7: We read to Chapter 11 in "The Summer of the Swans". Tomorrow will we make puce-coloured paint and draw swans.
SCI 7: Started chapter review. We will work on the review and the unit cover page for the next two classes. Both will be due Monday, November 7 at the end of class so I can get them marked and back to the girls for studying. The test will be on Tuesday, November 15
PAA 12: Finish sewing projects and work on Drysden plates.

ELA 8: Poetry notes
ELA 7: We read chapter 4 and discussed our Halloween party. We will watch "Soul Surfer" during ELA and CE on Monday. Some girls have volunteered to bring some treats. Andy is bringing candy apples, Tate is bringing caramel popcorn, Kalin is bringing cupcakes, and Shawna is bringing fruit. I will provide drinks. I am sorry for the short notice on the party.
SCI 7: Work period for the science lab reports. These are due Monday. I will come to 7Cs homeroom in the morning and pick them up.
PAA 12: Worksheets on reusing and recycling clothing.

Reminder that Monday is a formal uniform day and Halloween. The girls must wear full uniform for the morning then are allowed to change into costumes at lunch for the afternoon. We will be having the All Saints Day liturgy at 9 am.

PAA 12: Embroidery Samplers.
SCI 7: Worked on our Cleaning Solvents lab report. Tomorrow will be the last work class. The assignment is due Monday.

CE 7: Introduction to our bibles. We played a locating bible passages game. We will learn more about the Fatima next class.
ELA 8: We worked on a Literary Devices worksheet that is due tomorrow.
ELA 9: Quiz and began "The Loki Wolf".
ELA 7: Finished chapter 1 questions and moved on to chapter 2.
SCI 7: Demonstrated "Cleaning Solvents" lab. The class started their first lab report that will be due Monday, October 31. They will have class time to get the majority of work done.
PAA 12: Paper quilting, embroidery, and sewing continued.

Tuesday, October 25

CE 7: Sr. Zelie taught the class about the history of the Rosary. We said the Rosary as a class.
ELA 8: Began new poetry unit. I read different poems to the class.
ELA 7: Started a novel study on "The Summer of the Swans". We read chapter 1 and discussed some questions. We will try to read the chapter out loud in class then work on questions. The goal is a chapter a class.

Reminders:
Grade 8's have an ELA quiz on Monday. If you are familiar with all the readings, quotation marks, and adverbs and adjectives, you will do great.
RIT is this weekend. Come out and support our senior volleyball team. We play at 3, 4:50, 6:30, and 8:10 tonight. Tomorrow we play at 10, 11:40, and 1:20.
We only have two weekends before Halloween. Get to work on your costumes and preparing the sweetest candy bags possible. I will be spending Sunday preparing my costume and sampling our candy bags. It's a tough job, but someone has to make sure all the candy is delicious. :)

ELA 8: We reviewed for the quiz that will be on Monday. We made a chart to compare all of the readings and reviewed the use of quotation marks and identifying adverbs.
ELA 7: Presented Visual projects about courage.
SCI 7: Finished communicate #1+2 on page 144. We started making a unit cover page featuring all six big ideas. There will be more class time for the cover page.
PAA 12: Work class because the lab was in use.

Rainbow Day



Here's the rainbow cake we enjoyed in ELA 7. I used a lemon cake mix and a can of sprite instead of eggs, water, and oil. It was delicious.

ELA 8: Adverbs and Adjectives worksheet. We corrected the sheets and will work more on grammar this week. We will have a quiz next week so start reviewing a little bit each night. The date of the quiz will be decided after we spend some more time on grammar and some time on review.
ELA 7: We worked on our Variety Night act. Tomorrow we will continue to work on our visual communication project. It will be the second last day of class time.
SCI 7: Made and drank grape juice to learn more about dissolving and different levels of concentration.
PAA 12: Learned how to sew shank buttons and created our own shanks on two-hole buttons. We will continue working in the lab on our recycle projects.

ELA 9: The class worked on their power point biographies. They will have one more day to work in class and we will set a due date.
ELA 8: Worked through element of a fable as a class then had students look up their own fables to complete "Elements of a Fable" worksheet.
ELA 7: The girls worked on their visual communication project. We will set a due date as a class after I find out where they are at and what other homework they have coming up.
PAA 12: Sewing continued. Tomorrow we will work on buttons and embroidery samplers.
SCI 7: Corrected 4.5 and worked through a lab on dissolving.

CE 7: Read Page 12-14 in Be With Me. Discussed as a class what it means to be normal and whole.
ELA 8: Champion assignment was due today. We finished a quotation mark work sheet which we will correct tomorrow.
ELA 7: Personal Narratives were due today. We read Run, Kate Shelley Run. We will begin our final project tomorrow. Help your daughter choose one person from her own life who is courageous. The assignment will tell others about this person’s courage in a visual way.
PAA 12: Missed due to Liturgy of the Word.

Tomorrow is casual dress, yah! One more day until the weekend... I can hardly wait.

Tuesday, October 4

Wow. It's already October and time to really start focusing on my Halloween costume. I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and the beauty of fall that is all around us. I know it is tough to come back after a long weekend, but fear not ladies. Next weekend is Thanksgiving and another long weekend. :)

ELA 7: Last class to work on Personal Narratives. Hand in stories with criteria symbols on Thursday.
PAA 12: We continued our recycled sewing projects. Please continue to bring all supplies necessary. I will start getting creative with those who are forgetting...I'm imagining a lot of burpies and push-ups.

We enjoyed a guest speaker in the afternoon. Ask your daughter what she liked best about his presentation.
